The Moon Peak Expedition is an exhilarating 6-day journey that takes adventurers to the summit of Moon Peak, standing tall at an altitude of 4,610 meters in the Dhauladhar Range of the Himalayas. Starting from the vibrant town of McLeod Ganj, this expedition offers a challenging and rewarding experience for seasoned trekkers and mountaineers.

The expedition begins with a trek through lush forests of oak and rhododendron, gradually ascending to the picturesque Triund ridge, which offers panoramic views of the Kangra Valley and the surrounding mountains. As you move higher, the landscape becomes more rugged and rocky, with the trail passing through Laka Glacier and the steep ascent to Lahesh Cave, a natural shelter used by shepherds.

The highlight of the expedition is the final push to the summit of Moon Peak, which involves navigating through snow-covered slopes and steep ridges. Reaching the summit is a truly rewarding experience, offering breathtaking 360-degree views of the Dhauladhar range, the distant Pir Panjal range, and the vast plains of Punjab. The descent follows the same route, allowing trekkers to soak in the stunning landscapes once more before returning to McLeod Ganj.

This expedition is ideal for experienced trekkers looking to challenge themselves with a high-altitude climb, and it provides an excellent opportunity to experience the thrill of mountaineering in the Himalayas.

Day 1 McLeod Ganj to Triund Trek
  • Distance: 9 km
  • Altitude: 2,850 meters
  • Duration: 4-5 hours

The expedition begins with a trek from McLeod Ganj to the scenic Triund Ridge. The trail passes through dense forests of oak and rhododendron, offering stunning views of the Kangra Valley. Triund is a popular campsite, providing breathtaking views of the Dhauladhar range. Overnight stay in tents.

Day 2 Triund to Laka Glacier Trek
  • Distance: 6 km
  • Altitude: 3,200 meters
  • Duration: 4-5 hours

The trail today leads to Laka Glacier, a picturesque glacial landscape surrounded by towering peaks. The route involves a gradual ascent, with the terrain becoming more rugged as you approach the glacier. The campsite at Laka Glacier offers a closer view of the majestic Moon Peak. Overnight stay in tents.

Day 3 Laka Glacier to Lahesh Cave Trek
  • Distance: 5 km
  • Altitude: 3,500 meters
  • Duration: 4-5 hours

Today’s trek takes you to Lahesh Cave, a natural shelter used by shepherds. The trail is steep and rocky, requiring careful navigation. Lahesh Cave is an excellent spot to acclimatize before the final ascent. Overnight stay in tents or the cave, depending on the weather conditions.

Day 4 Lahesh Cave to Moon Peak Summit and Back to Lahesh Cave
  • Distance: 10 km
  • Altitude: 4,610 meters
  • Duration: 9-10 hours

This is the most challenging day of the expedition, as you make the final push to the summit of Moon Peak. The trail involves navigating through snow-covered slopes and steep ridges, requiring endurance and determination. Reaching the summit is a rewarding experience, offering panoramic views of the surrounding ranges. After spending some time at the summit, you’ll descend back to Lahesh Cave for the night.

Day 5 Lahesh Cave to Triund
  • Distance: 10 km
  • Altitude: 2,850 meters
  • Duration: 6-7 hours

The descent begins from Lahesh Cave back to Triund, retracing your steps through the rocky terrain and glacial landscapes. The return journey offers another opportunity to enjoy the stunning views and the serene environment. Overnight stay at Triund in tents.

Day 6 Triund to McLeod Ganj
  • Distance: 9 km
  • Altitude: 2,082 meters
  • Duration: 4-5 hours

On the final day, you’ll trek back to McLeod Ganj, descending through the lush forests and enjoying the last views of the Dhauladhar range. The expedition concludes in McLeod Ganj, where you can relax and reflect on the challenging and rewarding journey.

Full Refund: Cancellations made 15 days before the trek start date.

50% Refund: Cancellations made between 7-14 days before the trek start date.

Less than 7 days before the trek date: No refund.

In case of natural disasters or unforeseen circumstances: Mahadev Adventure reserves the right to cancel the trek. In such cases, we will provide an alternative trek or offer a full refund.
