The Chamba Valley Trek via Indrahar Pass is a challenging and rewarding adventure that takes you from the bustling town of McLeodganj, through the majestic Dhauladhar range, and into the serene and picturesque Chamba Valley. This trek offers a unique combination of high-altitude passes, glacier crossings, and cultural immersion in remote villages. The journey begins with a steady ascent through dense forests, leading to the popular Triund campsite with its panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. As you move higher, the terrain becomes more rugged and challenging, especially as you approach the Laka Glacier and the steep climb to Indrahar Pass.
Indrahar Pass, standing at 4,342 meters, is the high point of this trek, offering stunning views of the Pir Panjal range and the Chamba Valley below. The descent into the Chamba Valley brings a dramatic change in landscape, from the rocky and snow-covered terrain of the pass to the lush green meadows and dense forests of the valley. The trek also provides an opportunity to experience the rich culture and traditions of the local Gaddi people, especially in villages like Kuarsi, where you’ll stay with local families and experience their hospitality.

The trek starts from McLeodganj, where the trail winds through dense forests of deodar, oak, and rhododendron. The gradual ascent provides beautiful views of the Kangra Valley and the Dhauladhar range. After a few hours of trekking, you’ll reach the Triund campsite, known for its spectacular sunset views. Spend the night camping under the stars, surrounded by the serene beauty of the mountains.
After a hearty breakfast, continue your trek towards Laka Glacier. The trail becomes more challenging as you approach the snowline, with rocky paths and steep sections. Upon reaching Laka Glacier, you’ll be surrounded by the rugged beauty of the high mountains and the vast expanse of snow and ice. Set up camp near the glacier and enjoy the tranquility of this remote location.
This day marks the most challenging part of the trek. Start early from Laka Glacier and ascend towards Lahesh Cave, a natural rock shelter used by shepherds. From here, the trail becomes steeper and rockier as you approach Indrahar Pass. The climb to the pass is demanding, but the panoramic views from the top are truly rewarding, with vistas of the Pir Panjal range, Mani Mahesh Kailash, and the Chamba Valley below.
After taking in the stunning views, begin your descent into the Chamba Valley. The descent is steep and requires careful navigation, especially in the early part. The trail eventually leads to the campsite at Chatta Parao, a beautiful alpine meadow where you’ll spend the night.
After breakfast, continue your descent towards Kuarsi Village. The trail takes you through lush forests and open meadows, offering a mix of beautiful landscapes. As you descend further into the Chamba Valley, you’ll notice a change in the scenery, with terraced fields and traditional Himachali houses dotting the landscape.
Kuarsi Village is a quaint, remote hamlet that offers a glimpse into the local way of life. Spend the night here, experiencing the warm hospitality of the villagers and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. This is a perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture and learn about the traditions of the Chamba region.
On the final day, trek through the lush Chamba Valley, following a well-trodden path that winds through terraced fields and forests. The descent is gradual, and as you get closer to Chamba, the landscape becomes more populated, with small villages and farms dotting the valley. Upon reaching Chamba, you can explore the town’s rich history and architecture, including its famous temples and ancient structures. The trek concludes here, leaving you with lasting memories of your adventure through the Dhauladhar range and Chamba Valley.

15-30 days before the trek date: 50% refund of the total trek fee.
